Superintendent, Metropolitan Police, and former Chairman of the Guild) who died on 15 May 2010 at his home at Vinassan, France, will take place as follows:

Mike will be remembered in many ways but especially as Guild Chairman and his role as Chief Steward for the London events for the Papal Visit in 1982. He mustered the Guild into providing Stewards for all the London locations supported by the Knight’s of St. Columba, Catenians and other Catholic organisations. He also led the Guild Pilgrimage to Rome in 1985 and the memorable private audience with Pope John Paul 11. In 1983 He was awarded a Papal Knighthood becoming a Knight of St. Gregory.

Chris accepted this invitation and stated what an honour it was to be asked.  He thanked Patrick for his dedication to the Guild and the huge amount of work he has undertaken.

]]> http://catholicpoliceguild.org.uk/?feed=rss2&p=690 0 Michael Jeffers KSG RIP http://catholicpoliceguild.org.uk/?p=641 http://catholicpoliceguild.org.uk/?p=641#comments Wed, 09 Jun 2010 07:34:29 +0000 http://catholicpoliceguild.org.uk/?p=641 We regret to announce that Michael Jeffers KSG, died on 15 May 2006 at his home at Vinasssan, France, after a short illness.  Mike was a retired Chief Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police Service and a past Chairman of the Catholic Police Guild who was responsible for the stewarding arrangements by Guild members and other societies in London for the Papal Visit in 1982 by Pope John Paul II.    He also led a Guild Pilgrimage to Rome in 1985 where he presented an address to the Pope.   He was appointed a Papal Knight of St Gregory.

Mike wrote to the Chair in March saying that he had been diagnosed with cancer of the Oesophagus and expected to have a course of treatment and an operation but it seems to have been a very aggressive form of the disease.   Messages of condolence have been sent to his wife Sheila and the family.   A Guild Mass will be arranged at a later date in consultation with the family.

Please remember Michael and the family in your prayers.
